The GCU Difference: What Parents Demand, What Students Expect
Georgian Court University is the first choice among parents who are searching for the perfect place for their student to learn, grow and develop the tools they'll need to succeed after college: specific knowledge in their major and broad range of other skills-clear communication, collaboration and problem-solving abilities-that are non-negotiable.
That's what parents today demand and what students and employers expect. Because Georgian Court offers a small school ambiance, faculty members are able to ensure that students leave The Court prepared to make a difference in their workplaces and communities.
At Georgian Court, students don't get lost in the shuffle. Our 13:1 student-to-teacher ratio ensures that all students get personalized, individual attention. Teachers, not teaching assistants, work closely with all students providing mentoring and conducting research in our broad curriculum. An outstanding 90% of the teaching staff holds doctorates or terminal degrees in their respective fields, and all are dedicated, caring educators and experts who have demonstrated public service and a personal affinity to the Mercy core values.
Georgian Court, which was founded as a women's college in 1908, became fully coed in 2013. For decades men attended classes in the evenings, but women and men now have complete access to courses, co-curricular activities, residential options and NCAA athletics. Our special concern for women, however, remains with us, even as we offer a Mercy education to all students---men and women.
Whether they send their son or daughter to Georgian Court, our parents often find that the university's unique campus atmosphere is a direct contributor to their student's success, in the classroom and later, in the world of work.
"I couldn't have picked a better university. This is a community that has been blessed.
It's a community where everyone helps one another."
-Gladys Ramos '13, mother of a GCU sophomore
"I'm proud to say that my daughter has graduated from a small university that offered her a lot. She learned to speak up and get involved. Yes, Georgian Court is a smaller school, but there's more her to give. If I could turn back the clock, there would have been no other choice for my sons, either. You drive in and see the core values and they really mean something. I'm not convinced that the experience is the same elsewhere.
The level of attention here is tremendous."
-Mrs. Merkel, mother of a 2012 graduate
"The return on investment isn’t always monetary: it’s also a matter of survival in a tough economy. College gives you a taste of the real world, and a taste of independence. It’s a valuable transition period, and without that transition, some of today’s young adults wouldn’t survive."
-Richard George, middle school science teacher and '04 alumnus of GCU's accelerated teaching certificate program, on The New Math: The Return on Investment of Today's College Degree
Though an education is priceless, we all know that it comes at some cost. However, Georgian Court University and the Sisters of Mercy deliver an exceptional education that is among the lowest of private-school tuition in New Jersey. An investment in your student's future today will pay lifelong dividends in long-term earning potential and in the enjoyment of a richer, full life.
In short, Georgian Court gives young students an accessible, challenging, values-rich experience where they will develop into the ethical and capable leaders. The Georgian Court reputation is unmatched.
