Q. When is Orientation?
Orientation takes place beginning on Thursday, August 20th through Friday, August 21st. All full time, first time freshmen and Transfers must attend both days.
Q. Why should I attend Orientation?
Orientation is an important first step in beginning your transition to the GCU community. In addition to meeting with your First-Year and Transfer Seminar professors, deans, and other people who will assist you in your transition and throughout your time at the Court, you will meet and acquaint yourself with your peers and classmates. During orientation, you will receive the tools needed to begin and succeed in your first year at Georgian Court.
Q. Can my family attend Orientation?
Absolutely! We have a special program designed for parents and family members that is scheduled concurrently with New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 20th. Please see the Information for Parents to learn more information about Parent Orientation.
Q. Do I have to stay overnight?
All residents who are first time, full-time, freshmen and/or transfers are expected to MOVE-IN on Thursday, August 20th. Commuter and part-time students will have an OPTIONAL overnight stay in the residence halls. However, students MUST indicate they would like to stay overnight when they sign-up for Orientation.
Q. What do I need to bring with me to Orientation?
If you are a resident, please see the "Housing Information" for recommended items. If you are choosing the OPTIONAL overnight stay, simply bring sheets for a twin bed, a pillow, blanket, change of clothes, sleep attire, comfortable shoes, toiletries, and a POSITIVE attitude.
Q. What is the attire for orientation?
Orientation activities are casual, so dress appropriately for comfort and the weather! Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as there will be walking and other activities. Don't forget a sweater or sweatshirt and an umbrella, just in case!
Q. When do I get my laptop?
Laptops are provided to all first-time, full time, first year students on the second day of orientation. For students under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the contact in order for the student to receive a laptop.
Q. What if I cannot attend Orientation?
Orientation is a MANDATORY event for all new students at Georgian Court University. If you have any special circumstances that would prevent you from participating, please contact the Student Activities Office at 732-987-2606 or email email@example.com.
