GCU’s Friday Dinner Series Offers Lecture on Flemish Painter Van Eyck

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 26, 2012—On Friday, November 2, join Lisa Festa, Ph.D., GCU associate professor of art history, as she presents a multimedia lecture about Jan van Eyck (c. 1395–c. 1441), considered to be one of the most significant Northern European painters of the 15th century. Enjoy traditional music paired with a multicourse Flemish dinner, followed by Dr. Festa’s lecture. This event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the North Dining Room on the Lakewood campus.

“Mrs. Gould” Returns for the Holidays at Georgian Court

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 26, 2012—Step back in time to the early 1900s, and celebrate the holiday season with “Mrs. Gould” at her 11th annual holiday social, which is back by popular demand at Georgian Court University from November 7 through December 23. The social, which is part of GCU’s popular Biographies at The Court series, gives audiences a glimpse into the lives of Edith and George Gould and their seven children. The performances are staged in the Mansion on Georgian Court’s historic Lakewood campus. The Mansion, completed in 1898, was home to the Gould family for more than 20 years.

Georgian Court Explores Music of World War II for Veterans’ Day

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 25, 2012—In honor of Veterans’ Day, Georgian Court University offers a free and fun celebration with “Lifting the Clouds of War: The Music of World War II,” an interactive-lecture with audience sing-alongs, at the Dorothy Marron University Community Chapel on the Lakewood campus on Tuesday, November 13, at 7:00 p.m.

GCU Hosts Sensory Disorder Entrepreneur and Former Pro Baseball Player Matt Bruback

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 25, 2012—After professional baseball pitcher Matt Bruback injured his knee, coaches were constantly pulling on his uniform trying to get him to feel his balance point to make him more consistent in the strike zone. He realized he couldn’t relate to what they were trying to get him to feel, so while with the Baltimore Orioles he created a weighted belt to help himself become more aware of his body positioning. With the help of his mother and sister in creating the prototype, Mr. Bruback created the Balance Pro Sportbelt™ to improve balance for athletes with sensory deficits.

Bishop O’Connell to Speak on the Call to Holiness at Georgian Court

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 24, 2012—As part of Georgian Court University’s celebration of the Year of Faith, the university welcomes Bishop David M. O’Connell of the Diocese of Trenton for a lecture on the “The Call to Holiness.” The lecture will take place on Thursday, November 1, which marks the Feast of All Saints, at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus. A brief reception will follow the lecture.

GCU Offers Annual Free Fall Jazz Band Performance

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 24, 2012—On Saturday, October 27, the talented Georgian Court University Jazz Band will present their annual fall concert at 11:00 a.m. in the Ruggiero Room on the Lakewood campus. “The GCU Jazz Band is comprised of 15 GCU students and community members from all over New Jersey,” says Wilbur Wittemann, conductor of the GCU Jazz Band. “This semester we will feature three outstanding guitarists in our ensemble. The music being performed is by some of America’s greatest composers.”

Georgian Court Offers Admissions Open House for Prospective Students

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 18, 2012—Georgian Court University opens its doors to prospective undergraduate and graduate students to learn about all Georgian Court University has to offer at Open House on Saturday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m. in the Wellness Center on the Lakewood campus. This is the first Open House since GCU’s May 2012 announcement to become fully coeducational by Fall 2013.

Georgian Court University Holds Annual Halloween Celebration

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 4, 2012—Halloween is a night for carved pumpkins, costumes, and treats. But you don’t have to settle for the same boring routine. Residents of Ocean and Monmouth counties are welcomed to enjoy Georgian Court University’s Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 25. GCU Announces Selection of Kerry O’Donnell as New Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 4, 2012—Georgian Court University Director of Athletics and Recreation Laura Liesman announced today that Kerry O’Donnell has been tabbed as the third head coach in the six-year history of GCU women's lacrosse.
