Spring Has Sprung (in Theory): GCU Demystifies Organic Gardening
Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 1, 2011—You can be kind to the Earth as you create a healthful nurturing garden environment for you, your family, and your pets. Georgian Court University welcomes Karen Brueul of Littlebrook Organic Farm and Learning Center in Howell, who will lead the “Organic Gardening Demystified” workshop on Tuesday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Ruggiero Room on the Lakewood campus.
Organic gardening is about much more than what we use and don't use. It is about increasing the natural health of the soil, choosing plants that are suited to where you live, and working with nature to produce a healthy garden. Ms. Brueul will show participants how to utilize tried and true organic gardening principles, to work in harmony with nature, and to be assured of a healthful and abundant harvest.
Ms. Brueul will lead another workshop, “Herbs from the Garden for Everyday Healing,” on Tuesday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus. This workshop will introduce you to 10 to 12 herbs that can be used to enhance everyday health. You will smell, taste, nibble, drink, and chew your way through this interactive program as each herb’s therapeutic properties are explained. Learn how to best utilize each herb as a tea, herbal steam, vinegar, tincture, or poultice. All will leave with a goody bag of useful herbal items.
Each workshop is just $5 per participant, and free to GCU students and members of the McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the GCU Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
