Georgian Court University Professor Releases New Book
The Gospel of John: Question By Question Study Guide Available for Christmas
Lakewood, N.J., Dec. 5, 2008—Georgian Court Professor of Religious Studies and Theology Judith Schubert, RSM, Ph.D., has just completed her first book, The Gospel of John: Question by Question. The book, which was released last month by Paulist Press, is the latest in the “Question by Question” Bible study commentaries and is available just in time for Christmas.
“I was very pleased when Paulist Press asked me to write this book,” states Dr. Schubert, explaining that each chapter in the book begins with a short introduction of the corresponding chapter in the Bible and is followed by a series of questions. Readers are encouraged to find the answers in the biblical text, with answers also listed in the second half of the book. Each chapter’s question-and-answer portion is followed by a conclusion, which is a commentary on the contextual material of that chapter. This unique format engages the reader in thoughtful interaction with the actual biblical text, allowing the reader to become more involved in the powerful messages within the gospel, which will lead to a deeper appreciation of God’s gracious love for all.
“All of the questions in the book are actual questions I have gotten from students during lectures that I have given,” adds Dr. Schubert.
A member of the Sisters of Mercy, Dr. Schubert teaches courses in both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, as well as women in the Bible. She received her Ph.D. in Theology (New Testament) from Fordham University. She has also published chapters and articles in biblical and liturgical journals as well as lectured throughout the East Coast and Israel. She is a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.
The Gospel of John: Question by Question is a study guide that is intended for both college and parish adult Bible study groups, and provides an interactive, dynamic, and engaging way to approach the Gospel of John. The book is available for purchase online at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and paulistpress.com. For more information, contact the author at 732.987.2354.
