About A Tale of Two Cities
The musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ sweeping epic comes to Broadway! Set against an epic backdrop of the French Revolution, A Tale of Two Cities is a musical about injustice, vengeance, and the redemptive power of love. After his release from 17 years of solitary confinement in the Bastille, Dr. Manette is reunited with his daughter Lucie, whom he has never met. On the family’s trip back from France to England, Lucie meets and falls in love with a French gentleman, Charles Darnay. Caught in a love triangle with Lucie and Darnay is Sydney Carton, the cynical attorney’s assistant who finds a way to redeem his life when he realizes he can’t have the woman he loves. Sandy Copperman of the Sun Herald writes that Tale contains “the emotional power of Les Miserables, the mystique of Phantom of the Opera and the charisma of Cats, without borrowing from any of these.”
