Alexandra Cousteau to Speak at Georgian Court Earth Awareness Week
Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 9, 2008—The week of Sunday, November 2, through Friday, November 7, Georgian Court University will host Earth Awareness Week. More than 15 seminars and sessions on various topics related to preserving the environment and conserving natural resources will be held on the Georgian Court Lakewood campus. Kicking off the series of events is a keynote address by Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of the legendary marine researcher and ecologist Jacques Cousteau. She will speak on Sunday, November 2, in the Casino Auditorium at 2:00 p.m.
Ms. Cousteau inherited the love of nature that her grandfather and her father, Philippe Cousteau, both held, and went on her first expedition at the age of four. A devoted conservationist, she and her brother, Philippe Jr., founded EarthEcho International, a nonprofit organization that supports conservation issues. She has also founded her own organization, Blue Legacy, which strives to tell the story of the importance of water issues to the world.
Other events include the Greening Business Symposium; an Eco-Curriculum Teach-In for Educators; seminars on eco-feminism, reducing our carbon footprint, adding year-round beauty to your environment with flowers; and dance performances, among others.
While most of the week’s events are free, all require reservations. Alexandra Cousteau’s speech is $15.00 per person in advance and $20 at the door. All events, including the Cousteau speech, are free to the Georgian Court community with ID and registration. Most events are located in the Little Theatre, but attendees should check the schedule online at www.georgian.edu under “Events Open to the Public” or by calling the Office of Conferences and Special Events. For more information and registration, call the Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or email@example.com.
