Paws for Reflection: Georgian Court to Hold Blessing of the Animals
Lakewood, N.J., Sept. 17, 2008—On Thursday, October 2, Georgian Court University will hold a special Blessing of the Animals in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the Arts and Science Arcade, the lawn in front of the Arts and Science Center on the Lakewood campus.
Held in honor of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment, the event has grown over the past 10 years, says Kathy Brum of the Office of Campus Ministry. Last year, the service attracted more than 35 people and their beloved pets, which typically include dogs, cats, birds, and even ferrets, horses, and a rat, among others.
“The event brings together animal lovers from off-campus and our community here together to bless their animals,” says Ms. Brum. “We have one dog that has not been well for years, but comes back every year and gets her blessing.”
The officiant at the service will be Father Anthony DiPalma, and the event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Office of Campus Ministry at 732.987.2691.
