About A Catered Affair
This new musical, written by and starring four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, explores the meaning of family and the need for love. Set in the Bronx in 1953, A Catered Affair reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter’s marriage with a lavish catered affair—the grand wedding they never had. Harvey Fierstein’s book and John Bucchino’s score explore the meaning of family and the need for love, both new and reawakened.
Fierstein also stars alongside a cast of musical pros including Tony-winner Faith Prince and Tony-nominee Tom Wopat as the struggling parents. Based on The Catered Affair, a 1956 movie written by Gore Vidal from an original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, this funny, heartwarming new musical is uplifting for audiences of all ages.
