Lakewood, N.J., May 9, 2008—Take a long weekend to explore natural beauty and history of the Hudson River Valley with Georgian Court University from Friday, September 12, to Sunday, September 14. On this three-day, two-night excursion, you'll take a leisurely tour of the majestic Hudson River Valley in nearby upstate New York. Included in your trip are tours and wine tastings at four of the area’s premium wineries, lunch at one of the world’s most famous cooking schools—the Culinary Institute of America—and a visit to the Donald M. You’ll also visit Lyndhurst Castle, a Gothic Revival mansion that overlooks the Hudson River in historic Tarrytown, New York. Built in 1838 as a country estate for the mayor of New York City, the estate was later purchased by railroad magnate Jay Gould, father of George Jay Gould, original owner of Georgian Court, to use as a country retreat.
Tour Boscobel in Garrison, New York, said to be the most beautiful Federal mansion in the country. Dating from the early nineteenth century, Boscobel contains one of the nation's leading collections of furniture and decorative arts from the Federal period, much of it made by premier New York cabinetmakers such as Duncan Phyfe and Michael Allison.
Your trip will also include a visit to the 300-acre Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, which includes the Presidential Library and Museum, and Springwood, the lifelong home of the nation's only four-term president.
The cost is $550 per person based on double occupancy, or $950 for single occupancy. This includes round-trip bus transportation from Georgian Court; two nights accommodation, including breakfast; two dinners; two lunches, including one at the CIA; and admission to each of the sites. A deposit of 50 percent of the total cost is due by June 15; no refunds are available after July 1.
The bus leaves from the Seventh Street Gate on Georgian Court's Lakewood campus at 7:30 a.m. on September 12 for lunch at the CIA at 11:30 a.m., and leaves at 3:00 p.m. on September 14 to return to GCU.
