Multimedia Art Show “Intervals of Tranquility” Opens at Georgian Court University

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 23, 2008—Patricia A. Sherman’s “Intervals of Tranquility” art exhibit will open at the M. Christina Geis Gallery at Georgian Court University in Lakewood on May 12 and will run through May 30. The artist’s reception will be held on May 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the gallery. The reception and show are free and open to the public.

GCU to Host Congressional Art Competition for High School Artists

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 23, 2008—Georgian Court University will host the Fourth Congressional District Art Competition for amateur artists from Monday, May 5, through Thursday, May 8, at the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery. The winning entry will be placed on display in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Oldest Operational Bowling Alley in Nation to Reopen

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 17, 2008—Georgian Court University is known for its excellence in educational standards and its stunning architecture. Now, it adds one more feature to a long list of attributes: an on-campus bowling alley, built in 1899 by the Brunswick Balke-Collender Co., now newly restored through a grant from the Brunswick Foundation. The restored lanes will be unveiled at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 29, at 1:00 p.m. in the Casino Building on the university’s Lakewood, New Jersey, campus.

Celebrate Spring with a Tour of the Gilded Age Grandeur of GCU

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 17, 2008—Experience local history and beauty this spring with a Tuesday morning tour of the Georgian Court University campus in Lakewood. Guided tours include the historic Mansion, Casino, and McAuley Heritage Chapel, as well as the unique, lush gardens on the campus grounds.

Georgian Court University to Offer Funding to More Students

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 17, 2008—The New Jersey Commission on Higher Education announced recently that Georgian Court University has been granted 15 more Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) spaces for undergraduate students and two additional spots for graduate students, bringing the total number of EOF spaces at Georgian Court University to 113.

Georgian Court Receives Kresge Foundation Grant

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 16, 2008—Georgian Court University announced today that the university has received a $350,000 challenge grant from the private nonprofit Kresge Foundation to support completion of the new university Wellness Center Complex. In accepting the $350,000 grant, Georgian Court agrees to raise the remaining $450,000 needed to complete the campaign.

Georgian Court University Receives $250,000 for Upward Bound Program

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 11, 2008—Fifty students from Lakewood High School will get the extra help needed to graduate high school and get accepted to college thanks to Georgian Court University’s Upward Bound Program. The program, granted $250,000 in December by the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO program, seeks to increase the number of low-income high school students and first-generation college students who receive a bachelor’s degree.

GCU Offers Lecture on Joan of Arc: Unlikely Nation-Builder, Archetypal Saint

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 7, 2008—Joan of Arc is emblematic of her age and a flesh-and-blood example of the mythos of hero. Georgian Court University to Hold Centennial Commencement 2008

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 1, 2008—Georgian Court University will hold its Centennial Commencement 2008 ceremony on Friday, May 16, granting 415 undergraduate and 188 graduate degrees. “This Commencement is very significant for us as a university since it takes place during our Centennial year,” explained Rosemary E. Jeffries, RSM [Religious Sister of Mercy], Ph.D., university president. “We’re also honored to have Attorney General Anne Milgram and Patricia Licuanan, president of Miriam College in the Philippines, as speakers,” she continued. “These women are excellent role models for our students, encouraging them to pursue their goals and make a positive difference in the lives of others.”

Georgian Court University Participates in Model U.N. Conference

Lakewood, N.J., Apr. 1, 2008—Students from Georgian Court University will be taking part in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference, April 22–26, at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.
