2012 Pulitzer Prize-Winning
Poet Tracy K. Smith
Tracy K. Smith, an assistant professor of creative writing
at Princeton University, is the author of three books
of poetry. Her most recent collection,
Life on Mars
,
earned her the 2012 Pulitzer Prize and was selected as
a
New York Times
Notable Book. In part a
meditation on the state of the world today
and humanity’s place in the universe, in part
an elegy for her father who worked as an
engineer on the Hubble Space Telescope,
Life
on Mars
explores the personal, political, pop
cultural, spiritual, and cosmic dimensions of
existence with a rare combination of insight
and wonder. Ms. Smith is also the recipient
of the 2002 Cave Canem Prize for her first
collection,
The Body’s Question
, as well as the
2006 James Laughlin Award for her second
collection,
Duende
.
