The Call to Holiness with
Bishop DavidM. O’Connell
As part of Georgian Court University’s celebration
of the Year of Faith, the university welcomes Bishop
David M. O’Connell, C.M., of the Diocese of Trenton
for a lecture on “The Call to Holiness.” A priest of
the Eastern Province of the
Congregation of the Mission,
also known as the Vincentians,
Bishop O’Connell holds a
Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy
from Niagara University, New
York, and a Master of Divinity
and Master of Moral Theology
from Mary Immaculate Seminary
in Northampton, Pennsylvania.
He pursued studies in canon
law at The Catholic University
of America, Washington, D.C.,
obtaining a licentiate and then a doctorate in canon law.
Bishop O’Connell succeeded Bishop John M. Smith as the
Bishop of Trenton on December 1, 2010.
The Year of Faith, as declared in October 2011 by
Pope Benedict XVI, will be celebrated globally from
October 11, 2012, to November 24, 2013. The global
observance marks the 50
anniversary of Vatican II and the
anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
