What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary loan is a service for academic research through which library materials not owned by Georgian Court University may be requested and obtained from other libraries. While the library is happy to obtain material for you, students should be aware that their needs could often be met faster using the materials held in our library. We encourage you to fully use GCU resources before requesting an ILL.
Who may use Interlibrary Loan?
All currently registered students, faculty and staff in good standing may request materials through ILL. Request forms are available at the Reference Desk. ILL request forms must be given directly to a librarian at the Reference Desk.
How long does it take?
We can generally obtain materials that are available in New Jersey within 10 days. Materials from out-of-state libraries may take longer to arrive. Georgian Court cannot guarantee availability or delivery time of requested material.
What can be requested?
Books and photocopies of periodical articles. Whether or not a request can be filled depends on the borrowing policies of the lending library.
What cannot be borrowed?
Because of National Interlibrary Loan Code restrictions, we may not accept requests for any materials that are owned by our library. This includes books on reserve, books charged out to other users, and books that are on order. Generally, other libraries will not lend audio-visuals or dissertations.
Each photocopy request is $1.00 to be paid when the article is picked up at the Circulation Desk. There is generally no charge for book requests.
If there is a fee from the lending library of over $20.00 for either periodicals or books, the GCU library will subsidize up to $20.00, and the patron must pay the difference.
The patron is responsible for GCU overdue charges of $1.00 a day and any other charges imposed by the lending library, including their overdue and/or replacement charges. Unclaimed articles not picked up by 3 weeks before the end of the semester will cause your grades and registration to be blocked.
To avoid costly and time-consuming errors, each item must be verified before it can be requested from another library. All available citation information must be provided on the ILL request form. Please see the Reference Librarian for assistance.
When your material arrives:
You will be notified by E-mail or phone at the contact number or address given on your request. Material should be picked up at the Circulation Desk as soon as possible.
RETURNING BOOKS: Please return all ILL books to the Circulation Desk on or before the due date. (Articles are not returned.)
Unless lender restrictions are noted on the blue ILL book band, requests for renewals may be made by phone (732-987-2419 or X2419) or by email ( email@example.com ) 5 weekdays prior to the current due date. If the lending library approves a new due date, we will notify you.
Notice: Warning concerning copyright restrictions:
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
