Georgian Court University Presents “Just the Two of Us” Art Exhibit
Exhibit to Feature Manasquan Artists Buren Gilpin and Christina Sanes
Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 11, 2007—Georgian Court University’s M. Christina Geis Art Gallery will present an art exhibit entitled “Just the Two of Us” from Monday, October 29, through Friday, November 30, 2007. The show will feature local husband-and-wife artists Buren Gilpin and Christina Sanes, both of Manasquan.
“I use both domestic and exotic hardwoods to create my decorative and functional art. Often times, the final form is influenced by the unique characteristics of that piece of wood that become apparent only when the wood is being worked,” says Mr. Gilpin, who will exhibit wood sculptures. His works are primarily created using a lathe, and often enhanced by carving, texturing, and coloring.
Ms. Sanes will present a variety of watercolor paintings, including landscapes and coastal scenes. She will also display some of her abstract works, created with acrylic paints, embedded objects, and handmade papers.
“I believe emotions can be communicated effectively via abstract expressionism, symbols, and embedded objects. Using traditional and nontraditional techniques, a connection can be made between the viewer and the emotions and insights of the work,” says Ms. Sanes.
The exhibit will kick off with an artists’ reception on Thursday, November 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. where both artists will be available to answer questions and discuss their works. The exhibit and reception are both free and open to the public.
The M. Christina Geis Art Gallery spotlights works of established and up-and-coming artists in diverse media. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Arts and Science Center on Georgian Court’s Lakewood campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, call Kathleen Settles at 732.987.2388.
