Georgian Court to Honor Students at 43rd Convocation Ceremony
Lakewood, N.J., Sept. 28, 2007—On Friday, October 19, Georgian Court University will celebrate the decades-old tradition of Convocation, featuring a procession of faculty in full colors and academic regalia, to honor those students who have excelled academically over the previous year.
Held in the historic Georgian Court Casino building on the Lakewood campus, the event will commence at 7:00 p.m., and will include a keynote address given by Lorraine Licata, Ph.D., professor of psychology. In her address entitled “Voices and Bridges,” Dr. Licata will discuss these two areas close to her heart and how they can effect change.
“We are facing a world of change at such a rapid pace that we tend to lose track of things that have not changed, which we can achieve using voices and bridges. ‘Voices’ expresses the need to make our opinions known to bring about change by political or social activism, voting, or reaching out to politicians to express our opinions. ‘Bridges’ denotes the need for people to help others reach the other side by gaining knowledge or by mentoring,” she explains.
Dr. Licata was chosen to deliver the address at this fall’s Convocation by receiving the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence at the May 2007 Commencement. She has been teaching at Georgian Court for over 30 years.
All students in the sophomore, junior, and senior classes whose academic record of the previous year merited a 3.6 or better grade point average are Deans’ Scholars, and each will be recognized and receive a certificate. In all, over two hundred students will be recognized for scholarships, awards, and commendations.
