Georgian Court Joins National Initiative to Offer Additional Source for College Search Information
U-CAN Web Site Goes Live September 26
Lakewood, N.J., Sept. 25, 2007—Georgian Court University will be one of hundreds of private colleges and universities who share information on a new national Web site: www.ucan-network.org, which goes live September 26, 2007, at noon.
The U-CAN (University and College Accountability Network) Web site was developed by NAICU (National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities) and will deliver key college information directly to consumers. NAICU stressed that one of the main purposes for developing U-CAN was to respond to Congress’s and the U.S. Department of Education’s recent calls for increased institutional accountability: “As tuition continues to grow, there’s mounting pressure from policymakers for institutions to be more transparent about prices and other consumer information.”
To help in developing U-CAN’s fomat, focus groups were conducted nationwide with students and parents from all backgrounds who identified the information they most need to make an informed college choice. Institutional profiles on U-CAN cover topics such as admissions, enrollment, academics, student demographics, graduation rates, most common fields of study, transfer of credit policy, accreditation, faculty information, class size, tuition and fee trends, price of attendance, financial aid, campus housing, student life, and campus safety.
“Georgian Court wanted to be a part of the U-CAN Web site to give prospective students an additional source of information when deciding which college to attend,” said Rosemary E. Jeffries, RSM, Ph.D. “It’s easily accessible, free, and provides the data most sought after when comparing colleges.”
