Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 12, 2007—The artist to the court of Philip IV of Spain, Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velázquez (1599–1660) captured the likenesses of the most important people and families of Europe, including royals, financiers, popes, and other heads of state, and was knighted for his work. His artwork inspired Édouard Manet, Salvador Dali, and Pablo Picasso. His work will be explored at a multimedia presentation and multicourse dinner on Friday, November 2, at 6:30 p.m. as part of Georgian Court’s popular Adventures for the Mind and Palate series.

Christina Geis Art Gallery will present an art exhibit entitled “Just the Two of Us” from Monday, October 29, through Friday, November 30, 2007. The show will feature local husband-and-wife artists Buren Gilpin and Christina Sanes, both of Manasquan.

Lakewood, N.J., Oct. 2, 2007—The Georgian Court University Campus Ministry will hold a “Blessing of the Animals” on Thursday, October 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the Arts and Science Arcade on the Lakewood campus. The blessing will be conducted by the new campus chaplain, Reverend Anthony DePalma.
