Summary:
Georgian Court University seeks a creative leader with a vision for the modern university library that combines the traditional roles of the academic library with the increasing place of electronic information technologies in an environment that fosters collaborative, active learning and the integration of academic and student life. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position with faculty status.
The 44,000 square foot Sister Mary Joseph Cunningham Library, opened in 1993, has more than 600,000 items in various formats, several computer labs, the university’s archives, the Thomas Merton Collection, an audiovisual preview room and an instructional materials center containing elementary and secondary curriculum materials. The library building also houses the Office of Information Technology, the Academic Development Center and a NASA Educator Resource Center. The Director supervisors 6 professional librarians, 9 full-time staff members and a number of part-time staff members. Reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Program Development.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage all aspects of library operations: budget, personnel, services, program planning, development and assessment, facilities and equipment.
- Implement university vision through long-range planning.
- Plan and implement new and enhanced user-services, including information literacy and remote access for populations at off-campus instructional locations.
- Implement a plan to transform the library into a more collaborative, active learning space where content, technology and services intersect to support and enhance student learning and the university’s plan to integrate academic and student life.
- Create library policies in collaboration with library faculty members.
- Coordinate collection development and management of library collections
- Collaborate with Office of Information Technology on integration of emerging technologies and provision of electronic resources to the university community.
- Lead in an open and collaborative manner.
- Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science from a library school program accredited by the American Library Association and an earned second master’s/advanced degree.
- Minimum five years collegiate library experience in positions of increasing responsibility, including two years in a supervisory role.
- Effectiveness in leadership, management and decision-making in a collegial environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends in academic librarianship and in higher education.
- Experience with assessment and strategic planning.
- Experience with library consortia.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, the latest technological applications in libraries and their use to advance teaching, research and learning.
- Experience in information literacy initiatives.
- Commitment to making the library into a more collaborative, active learning space and to working with other academic units to collaboratively provide services to students.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with library staff, faculty, students, and administrators.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
