One-Woman Show at GCU Brings Female Role Models to Life
Pivotal Women in American History Portrayed
Lakewood, N.J., March 11, 2008—Experience the dreams, frustrations, struggles, and victories of Abigail Adams, wife of second U.S. President John Adams; Lucy Stone, abolitionist and suffragette; and Marian Anderson, African-American contralto singer who broke color barriers on Monday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m. in the one-woman show “Women: Back to the Future.” The show is presented as part of GCU’s Conversations across Time series, which celebrates our heritage with professional portrayals of those from the past whose impact is still felt today.
Actress Kate Campbell Stevenson’s show, “Women: Back to the Future,” brings to life a diverse group of historical female role models with her dynamic performance. Each woman’s distinctive character springs to life through song, monologue, and movement. Participants are challenged to “reach out for a star” during the culminating song to awaken the power within themselves.
Ms. Stevenson has starred in over 30 Broadway musicals produced in regional theaters across the United States, including Camelot, Carousel, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Show Boat, and The Music Man, as well as performed in radio and TV commercials. In her one-woman show, Ms. Stevenson brings to life historical women with “can do” attitudes. She has performed at the Kennedy Center and for the Office of the President of the United States and has inspired audiences all over the nation.
The performance will take place in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus. Tickets are $5 per person in advance, $10 per person at the door; and free to the GCU community with ID. Reservations are required; for these or more information, please contact the Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or email@example.com.
