MTV’s Road Rules Rocks the Vote at GCU

Event Is Part of Women’s Empowerment Week at Georgian Court University

Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 14, 2008—Georgian Court students will rock the vote when MTV’s Road Rules and Real World/Road Rules Challenge stars Rachel Robinson and Veronica Portillo bring the Rock the Vote organization to campus on Wednesday, March 5, at 10:00 p.m. in the Casino Building on GCU’s Lakewood campus. Rock the Vote, a nonprofit, non-partisan organization, mobilizes young people to create positive social and political change in their lives and communities and seeks to increase youth voter turnout by incorporating the entertainment community and youth culture into its activities.

The event is part of Georgian Court’s weeklong celebration dedicated to the empowerment and beauty of womanhood from March 3 to 7. The week will open with “Women in Faith,” a lecture presented by Dr. Cheryl Durham of Living Truth, and close with the fresh-from-Off-Broadway Love, Life, and Redemption, a play written and directed by Setor E. Attipoe that promises an inspirational experience to the public.

“Through the celebration of Women’s Empowerment Week, we want to provide an overview of some of the issues that women face. Our ultimate goal is through one, or all of these events, for students and guests to realize their worth, that they are special and loved, and deserve to be respected by others and by themselves,” explains Alyssa Ruggiero, coordinator of student activities at Georgian Court.

The agenda also includes a series of lectures on women in business and a special presentation on March 6, “Women’s Health: Surviving the Party”, featuring speaker Elaine Pasqua. Ms. Pasqua is renowned for educating students about high-risk behaviors and how they can make healthy choices.

All events are open only to the GCU community, except Love, Life, and Redemption, which is open to the public. Tickets for the play are $10 per person, $5 for non-GCU students with ID; and free to the GCU community with ID. Reservations are required by e-mailing

About Love, Life, and Redemption

Love, Life & Redemption is made up of 15 short stories that represent the experiences of heroine Carolyn Bower’s life. The play takes the audience on a journey of enlightenment, survival, betrayal, love, longing, and many more raw human experiences. What makes Setor E. Attipoe’s concept so unique is that it represents the marriage of poetic, even sophisticated, dialogue with realistic staging, topped with an urban edge. These characteristics provide a truly memorable theatrical experience for even the most discriminating audiences.
