Georgian Court to Offer Presentation on Biblical Wisdom Women
Lakewood, N.J., Feb. 5, 2008—On Monday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m., join Georgian Court University for “Wisdom Women of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament,” an enlightening presentation on both the named and unnamed women of the Bible. The presentation will take place in the Little Theatre on GCU’s Lakewood campus.
The Bible has been influential in shaping the portrayal and roles of women for centuries. Judith Schubert, RSM, Ph.D., GCU professor of theology and religious studies and biblical scholar, and James Bridges, Ph.D., GCU lecturer in religious studies and member of the Graduate Theological Union, will shed light on the feminine wisdom tradition and explore some biblical women who have carried that tradition forward into the New Testament.
Included in the presentation will be biblical women such as Eve, Sarah, Deborah, and Ruth. The people of Israel sought out the wisdom of Deborah, a judge and prophetess, who accompanied her people to battle and victory. Ruth, a Moabite, chose to return to Israel with her mother-in-law, Naomi, after her husband died. Her statement to Naomi, “your God shall be my God,” was imbued with the wisdom of God. Ruth, a convert to the faith, became the grandmother of David and was named in the lineage of Jesus.
The presentation is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information or for reservations, contact the Office of Conference and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
