Permanent linkIt is winding down to the last 2 weeks of school, and I am amazed. This past week has been very busy.
I had two presentations due, one of which I had to cook a meal from the Victorian era. It took me almost 4 hours to prepare and cook everything from scratch, but the food came out sooooo good! Plans are well in effect for what I hope will be the best Senior Week ever! We have a Beach Bash planned, International Night, and a graduation party at a Hibachi restaraunt. Friday evening we had a dinner for Student Government as a thank you for all the hard work over the past year. It was at Eagle Ridge and between the company, food, and conversation, it was a very good night. When we got back to campus, we had to start decorating for the WILD family dinner which was the next day. That night, GCU hosted Relay for Life which I think was a huge success, and a lot of girls came out to support it.
The WILD family dinner was wonderful. There were 20 of us that are graduating, and so it was a little emotional. Everyone put a lot of work in the planning and preparation of the dinner, and everyone had a good time, so I am happy.
I have so much work to get through this week. I have 5 finals this week plus a quiz and 2 papers due, so I will be so happy when this week is done. Next week I have one final and then all the Senior Week parties and Graduation festivities, so next week is what I am looking forward to. Well, I had better get back to my paper, so I will write again later! Have a good week everyone! Permanent linkSo the countdown is on, it is 4 and 1/2 weeks and counting till the end of my undergrad college career here at Georgian Court and I can not believe it has gone so fast. I am going to miss GCU, especially the people and the scenery.
All the professors are getting ready to crack down for the last leg of the semester. have a presentation for Multi Cultural Psych to prepare. It is on my "Family or Origin" which means what cultural backgrounds I come from. Some people have already presented theirs, and they were very interesting. I always love learning about where people come from, it gives a glimpse into their life that you don't normally get to see.
Last Tuesday we had the Housing Lotto, and I think it went pretty well. All the RA's staffed it so it went pretty smooth. Next week people get to choose their rooms for next year. The new rule for the 08-09 housing is that ONLY juniors and seniors will get housed in St Catherine's.
Everyone on campus is feeling the end of the semester. Even the bookstore, they are already advertising the buy-back week. The weather seems to be getting nicer, and the trees are in full bloom around campus, and this is my favorite time of year on campus.
The SGA elections are coming up next week, and I hope that there will be some good, tight races. Well, it's time for Biology class, and we are getting back our tests today, so wish me luck! Permanent linkSo Spring Break came and went, and it was amazing! We went on the Senior Class Trip, which this year was a 7-day cruise to the Bahamas. It was great! Snorkeling, all the shopping, swimming, and the food! About 18 people went, and it was a blast. We had perfect weather while we were in the Bahamas, which made it even better. But it seemed like it went to fast.
So now it's back to the hectic world of academics. This week I have a total of 10 papers due. I have 3 more to do before the end of the week. But that's what I get for being an English and Humanities major. All my midterms have been in the past two weeks, so I am just glad that they will all be over soon. I cant believe that there are only 5 more weeks of class!
Last night was April Fool's day, and the RA's got together to throw a program to help avert any tricks people might have played. We played a game called Quest which some of us learned on the cruise, and it was a big hit. Then we watched the movie I AM LEGEND and had some Rita's water ice for everyone. A lot of people came, so I'd say the program was a success.
The yearbook is coming along, and I am getting very excited for the end of the semester. The trees and flowers are all starting to bloom around campus, so it is a gorgeous way to walk to class everyday. Well, it's time now to take a walk to Biology, so I will write again later! Permanent linkSo I am in Boston right now for a NASPA conference, which deals with student affairs at college. Boston is beautiful, but very windy and cold! The conference is very informative, and I am looking forward to a few workshops including one on good communication in a time of crisis. This past week at school felt like it went so slow. I had a lot of homework to do, and I have two 10 page papers due by Thursday. We had Rock the Vote this week with MTV's Veronica and Rachel, and it was pretty cool. They seemed like down to earth people and were very passionate about college students getting involved in voting and learning the issues. I hope it really helped to open the eyes of the freshmen who went because they are probably going to be voting for the first time this year, and especially with this year being a presidential election, I hope they do their research about the candidates and the issues involved. Friday night we had a performance of "Love, Life, and Redemption." It is a very popular off-Broadway play about the author's experiences and observations in life stemming from her very moving poetry. It was fantastic, and we had the pleasure of meeting the cast and playwright for a Q&A session afterwards.
Georgian Court surprises me sometimes with the quality of programs and events that they host. For a smaller school, they get the best, and I have had opportunities here that I definitely would not have even known about at other colleges. I was telling some of the prospective students about the experiences I have had at the Open House last Sunday. There was a good turn out, and everyone is looking forwrad to the Centennial Year incoming freshmen class. I have to run to get ready for the opening session of the conference, so I will check back in next week! Have a good one! Permanent linkSo it is about 3 months from graduation, and it seems like such a long time, but when looking at the calendar, it doesn't seem that long at all. This week has been busy, between Student Government, classes (I had two exams today plus a presentation), and a lot of meetings. Tomorrow morning I have a WILD (Women in Leadership Development) program on business etiquette. Next week begins Rock the Vote, and we are having Veronica and Rachel from MTV's Real World/Road Rules to kick off the week. That should be very exciting. I can not believe that I only have 10 more weeks of classes in my undergrad college career. I have to prepare a presentation for Victorian Literature before Spring Break, and do a research project on my family history and traditions for Multicultural Psychology. That is one of my favorite classes because I always took for granted the traditions that I or other people have. But now, I have learned a lot of reasons and explanations behind those traditions, so they have a deeper meaning. Sister Sandy is my professor for Multicultural Psych, and she is very well traveled so she knows a lot of interesting facts about different cultures and religions. We are beginning to talk about gender and the influences, beliefs, and ideas about people based on gender in different cultures. You realize how we buy into and play into stereotypes so easily. It is amazing the misconceptions we have about others. Well, it's back to homework I go, so that's all for now! Permanent linkIt's not even half over, and this week is so busy! SGA is working on "Rock the Vote" and this involves a lot of work and planning. I'm in charge of flyers, and we have about 4 events which needs flyers, so I have to design them and get them out to everyone by Friday. Just another thing on the list of things I need to do! I have two classes and a lab to do today, as well as work and a meeting. My friends and I got hungry last night, so we drove to Wawa. I dont know what I would do without Wawa, lol. I need my Icees and subs! We have three Wawa's within 10 minutes of school, so when McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts close down, we always have good ol' Wawa! I am excited for Friday because Friday is jam-packed with stuff: 8:30am Mass with the Board of Trustees, work, meeting about hooding and commencement, a reception with the Alumni Association, and then Arcade Night at 9:30pm! Arcade Night is a night of games, including Pac Man, Super Mario, ping pong, air hockey, and music and snacks. The Campus Activity Board is putting it together, and it sounds like fun. Saturday is Winter Formal, but I will be away, so sadly I am going to miss it. But it's time to get ready for work, so I am signing off for now! Permanent linkHi everyone!
This week has been very busy!!! I am in the middle of planning Senior Week, a huge tradition here at Georgian Court. It is a week full of special events for seniors to help celebrate their last few days as college students. It is a very exciting time, and I can not believe that graduation is only about 3 months away!!!
My classes are very hectic, but a lot of fun. I am taking Biology, Victorian Literature, Multicultural Psychology, Humanities Senior Seminar, English Senior Seminar, and Italian 2. They are very demanding, but the teachers are excellent. I am happy to have Dr. Holian again this semester. I started and am ending my college career with her as a teacher. I have her for Victorian Lit right now, and each class I am amazed at how much she knows. I have a lot of reading to do between all my classes, and thats what I catch up on during the weekends.
There is a lot going on in the dorms now too. There are lots of programs planned by myself and the other RA's, including movie nights, Valentine's Day programs, relationship programs, and I know there is a Chocolate Fest coming up! It's weird to think of leaving the dorms after graduation, because after four years, this place has kind of become my home.
Student Government Association is also very busy planning our Rock the Vote campaign in order to try and get more girls registered to vote and excited about the upcoming presidential election. Although it isn't until November, it is going to be here before we know it. And with so many controversial candidates running, this is sure to be a memorable election.
Well, it's off to work and then class, so I will update later with how everything goes! :) Permanent linkWelcome to my blog.
