Almost Summer

 Permanent link

Summer is almost here and the semester is coming to an end. Yesterday I had my last English and Multicultural psychology class. In English I presented my research paper on Developmental Disabilities which went very well. I also participated in the Spring photo shoot for GCU yesterday which was a lot of fun! Monday will be my last Philosophy and Italian class then the semester is officially over! Unfortunately, finals are next week but then its Summer!

Last Thursday WILD V had an Image Seminar and it was very exciting. The speaker was very interesting and extremely engaging as well. We learned how to dress for different business occasions and also had the opportunity to partner up with someone, shop around, and pick out a outfit that we would potentially wear on an interview or as an employee of a company. Tomorrow night I am also attending the WILD family dinner which should be fun!

I can't wait for the semester to be over! However, next semester is going to be extremely challenging. I'm taking science with a lab, modern math concepts II, biological psychology, basic counseling, cognitive psychology and art history with honors. Needless to say, I will be relaxing as much as possible over the summer.

Have a great weekend!

The Start of Another Weekend

 Permanent link

I really can't believe how quickly these weeks are going. Before we know it, summer will be here! There's only a month left of school and I must say, I can't wait for another long break. I have been flooded with homework and papers this week. This week in psychology we had our book club presentations. We had to read a book and then talk about it with others who read the same one. I also have a presentation coming up in psychology on Tuesday in my multicultural class. At the beginning of the semester we each had to pick a culture different from our own to present to the class. It should be interesting to hear about all different cultures.

I'm applying to get an internship this summer in the field of psychology. I have to decide immediately what I want to do, either Industrial-Organizational psych or Clinical psych. Since the summer is quickly approaching, I do not have much time to decide. Open House was this past Sunday. I gave a tour to a group of prospective students. We have a WILD workshop coming up this Friday which should be exciting. Also coming up this month is the WILD Image Seminar which I'm also looking forward to. I changed my major last Thursday to Education and Psychology. I will be starting my education classes in the Spring.

Enjoy the weekend!

Back to School

I really can't believe how fast Spring Break went. For Palm Sunday I went to my cousins house and for Easter some family came over to celebrate the holiday. I had a lot of studying to do over break because I had 3 midterms and 3 papers due this week. The midterms that I had were in Italian, Philosophy and Theories of Personality, I studied a lot so I'm hoping for good grades. I really look forward to the weekends to catch up on sleep since I really don't sleep much during the week due to all of the homework. We also got our Philosophy papers back this week and I did rather well considering how hard it was.

So I applied to be in the Orientation Leader Program a few weeks ago. On Tuesday I received a letter in the mail stating that I had been accepted and I was so excited! Orientation Leaders help the incoming Freshman transition from high school into college. Unfortunately, the dates for New Student Orientation conflict with my schedule so I will not be able to work the actual Orientation. I will be in the Dominican Republic during that time. Even though I'm not going to be able to do Orientation, I'm still going to do the testing days. This is where the incoming students come to Georgian Court University and take their placement tests and register for the classes that they will be taking in the Fall. So even though I can't do Orientation I'm still excited that I get to be a part of the Orientation Leader Program.

I have a book for psychology that I have to read by next week which I have yet to start. This weekend is going to be another busy one with doing tons of homework and papers as usual. I can't wait for the summer to come because right after school ends I will be going to Florida with my grandpa and sister for a few days!

Have a great weekend!

Spring Break is Finally Here

 Permanent link

It's FINALLY spring break! I've been so exhausted from doing homework and studying for midterms that I haven't had time to do anything else. Even though we're on break, I still have so much studying to do because I have multiple tests when we get back to school. So what am I doing over break? My friend from New York is coming to visit for the weekend and all of my friends are home on their breaks as well.

This week was busy as always. I went for some extra help in Italian on Tuesday to brush up on some things before we had our test. It helped a lot! I also just found out that we have a WILD Image Seminar coming up in April which I'm also really excited for! We're going to learn about personal image, attitude and style as well as how to dress for business casual, business social and smart business events.

I'm so happy the weather is finally getting warmer because I love GCU during the spring time. All of the flowers bloom in the gardens and it's so nice to walk around campus and relax. My favorite part of campus is the Sunken Garden because it's a really beautiful place to go study and just take time for yourself.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break!

The Weekend is Here!

 Permanent link

Well it's finally the weekend (for me at least) because I don't have classes on Friday's for a change. Each semester since my Freshman year, I've always had Friday classes. It's nice to know that I can relax on a Thursday night now and not have to worry about doing homework. Speaking of homework, I have SO much to do this weekend. I have a psychology and English paper due on Tuesday and a Philosophy paper due on Wednesday. Looks like I'm going to be spending a lot of time doing work this weekend. I really can't wait for spring break!

So this week was very busy as always. I did homework, wrote multiple papers and studied for my Theories of Personality test that I had on Tuesday night. Italian is turning out to be a class I really enjoy now. In the beginning I was skeptical because I was starting to learn a new language that seemed to be very confusing. After a few weeks, I really got the knack of it and started to pick up what we were learning fairly quickly. I'm really excited for cheerleading to start up again and I can't wait for our meeting next week. This weekend is going to be very busy with doing homework and working. Sunday is Open House at GCU so I will be giving tours and such that day. By the way, I forgot to mention that 2 weeks ago I went to the Spice Girls concert with my sister. It was SO amazing! I was always hoping that they would come back and do a reunion tour and they finally did!! I also applied to become an Orientation Leader this week so I'm hoping that I get picked.

Last weekend I went into the city to see my friend who just moved back here from Texas. It was really nice seeing her again because the last time I did, it was in the summer. I still can't believe that I've been friends with her since 1st grade! How quickly time goes by.

Until next week,

Lauren

The Start of Another Week

So last week was incredibly busy but I can't believe how fast it went by! Class was canceled on Tuesday night due to the inclement weather and I was really happy to have the night off. I also had plenty of homework to keep me busy all week long. I've been thinking a lot lately of what I want to pursue as a career. Right now, I'm a psychology major but I've been thinking of getting my teacher's certification as well. However, I also deciding between counseling or Industrial-Organizational psychology. Industrial-Organizational psychology is the "business" part of psychology. An IO psychologist hires individuals for companies as well as designs tests to see if people are good candidates for certain job positions. Basically, an IO psychologist is based around the Human Resource department. I realized that I might be interested in this when I took Careers in psychology second semester of my freshman year. I still have until next year to fully decide so I have a little while longer.

Valentine's day was a fun day/night. I also went skiing this weekend in PA. I'll admit, I'm no professional skier but I still had a blast (even though I fell practically every time haha).

This is going to be another long week but I'm really excited for this weekend! I'm going to see my friend who just moved back here from Texas. She moved away when we were in 5th grade and we've stayed in touch ever since and I've also seen her a lot since she's been gone.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Lauren

It's Almost Friday Already?

 Permanent link

Hey everyone! I would just like to start out by introducing myself. My name is Lauren and I'm currently a sophomore here at Georgian Court University. I'm majoring in psychology and plan on becoming a counseling or Industrial-Organizational psychologist (I'm a little torn between the two). I love participating and getting involved with all GCU has to offer. I'm in the University Honors Program, a Student Ambassador Representative (STAR) and I'm also a member of WILD (Women in Leadership Development).

I can't believe how fast winter break went and that we are already back in school. One minute I was basking in the sun in Ocho Rios, Jamaica with my friends and the next I was back at Georgian Court. Anyway, I'm glad that school started again because I was getting extremely bored at home, doing nothing except sleeping haha. So, I absolutely love my classes this semester! I'm taking Multicultural Psychology, Theories of Personality, Philosophical Inquiry with honors, English and Italian. My professors are also very interesting and so nice! This is going to be a great semester.

Since school started I've been EXTREMELY busy! Last week we had our first WILD welcome back dinner which was really fun! It was really nice seeing everyone again after a long winter break. We discussed all of the events that are going to go on this semester. Last Friday we had our first workshop of the semester for WILD. I really enjoyed it a lot. We learned about self-esteem and the speaker was very interesting. So I've just been busy with doing homework and papers. I can't believe the weekend is here already! I'm very excited to relax all weekend and catch up on much needed sleep (and of course do homework).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Lauren
