NEW HAVEN, CT – After battling for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s soccer championship last season, Georgian Court University and Philadelphia University tied for the top spot in the 2009 preseason poll. Both garnered 160 points to top the poll, which was voted upon by the 13 CACC head coaches. The Lady Rams picked up seven of the 13 first place votes, while the Lions received the remaining six.
NEW HAVEN, CT- The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) has announced its All-Academic team for the 2008 fall athletic season today. Four Georgian Court University student-athletes earned a spot on this elite list, including junior soccer player Alley Abbate (Business Administration-3.69 GPA) and three cross-country runners, senior Kim Galvin (English-3.77 GPA); sophomore Heather Miara (Undecided-3.87 GPA) and junior Oge Okeke (Biology-3.91 GPA).

RINDGE, NH-The magical 2008 season has come to an end for Georgian Court University soccer as the CACC champions fell to #21 The College of St. Rose, 2-0, Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship at Sodexho Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University. The three-seed Golden Knights improve to 17-3-2 and will take on #2-seed Franklin Pierce (15-3-2) on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 PM. The Lions end the campaign at 12-7-5, which included a 15-game unbeaten streak.
The CACC-champion Georgian Court University soccer squad departed on Thursday for Rindge, NH, where the #6 Lions will take on The College of St. Rose, the third-seed, in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Division II Women's Championship Tournament. The Lions and the Golden Knights will face each other for the second time this season on Friday at Franklin Pierce University. Plymouth Meeting, PA - In the weeks before the 2008 soccer squad (a roster comprised of 14 freshmen and sophomores) commenced its practice schedule in preparation for the upcoming season, GCU head coach Jim Moore felt it was going to be a "learning experience" for his young squad, especially the defense. Well, the learning experience has fallen on the Lions' opponents, which still hasn't found the answer as Georgian Court University, unbeaten in 15 straight contests (11-0-4), claimed the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Tournament Championship over top-seeded Philadelphia University on Saturday evening. It is GCU's first CACC soccer championship since the 2002 season.

The victory advances GCU (10-6-5, 8-1-3 CACC) to the semifinal round of the CACC Tournament where they will square off against #3 Holy Family University this Wednesday at 2:30 PM.

The game resulted in a 1-1 tie, giving Philadelphia at least a share of the CACC title. The tie was the third straight for GCU, which remains unbeaten in 11 straight contests (7-0-4).
