Q. How will an Associate’s Degree benefit my curriculum as a transfer student?
A. An Associate’s Degree allows a student who has earned either a AA or AS degree to transfer credits from a NJ community college general education program in its entirety to satisfy many of the GCU general education requirements. Without an Associate’s Degree, the credits must be transferred individually.
Q. How many credits can I transfer to GCU?
A. GCU accepts a maximum of 90 credits with a limit of 75 credits from a two year institution. A minimum of 120 credits is required to earn a degree at GCU; however, some programs may require further credits for completion.
Q. What does GCU require for the transfer application process?
A.
- GCU Application with non-refundable application fee ($40) or an application fee waiver.
- Official transcripts from ALL colleges or universities attended (Students with less than 24 credits must submit official high school transcripts and SAT I or ACT scores.)
- Signature Page (for online application only)
- Official test scores for CLEP, AP Exams, or Dante (if applicable)
- Military personnel and veterans may submit official evidence of service school for evaluation.
Q. What is necessary to be considered for transfer admission at GCU?
A.
- Maximum of 90 credits from a regionally accredited institution with a limit of 75 credits from a two year institution.
- Cumulative GPA calculation
- Progress Chart
- Grades of “C” or higher
- 60 credits must be earned at GCU to be eligible for degree honors.
- Minimum 120 credits for a GCU degree. For successful degree completion, a student must earn 30 credits and have completed 50% of the major at GCU.
- GCU General Education Requirements are satisfied dependent upon a student’s receipt of a AA or AS from a NJ community college.
Q. Is on-campus housing a possibility for transfer students?
A. Yes, residential facilities are available only to full-time matriculating students in the Women’s College. It is recommended to students to submit housing applications as early as possible.
Q. Are there GCU scholarship opportunities for transfer students?
A. Yes, scholarships are available for new transfer students enrolled full-time at the GCU Lakewood campus. The admission cumulative GPA is based upon all college credits earned by the students at the time of application. Students must maintain satisfactory academic status as a fulltime student at the Lakewood Campus to maintain eligibility for these scholarships and must have status as a full-time student. While the University reserves the right to adjust scholarship amounts based upon external financial aid, the following awards may be received:

Q. Are there on-campus parking lots accessible to transfer students?
A. There is ample parking for both commuter and resident students on the Lakewood campus. It is recommended that students arrive at a reasonable time before class to ensure appropriate parking. All cars must be registered through the Office of Security and all students are billed a fee, included in their tuition statement, for a parking permit. Handicapped spaces are also available in various areas; parking is not permitted on roads, driveways or grass areas.
Q. Is there anything for a transfer student to do during “free time” between classes?
A. There are opportunities for all students to get involved or spend time on campus through participating in clubs, attending athletic events, using the fitness center and beautiful grounds for exercise, accessing library computer labs, leisure reading lounges, and a newly renovated student lounge complete with a Court Café.
Q. Does GCU offer career counseling for transfer students?
A. Yes, GCU features the Career Development office with knowledgeable staff to help prepare all students with career exploration, internships, resumes and workshops. The Career Development office also offers a link on the GCU website with Optimal Resume Builder and a list of recent job postings available. Career Development is located on the second floor of the Casino.
